The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Displeasure Regarding Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and manually change the size when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Changes
Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options following member complaints.
